Who are these people? I know that's Joe, but who are those ladies? Also, whatever's snatched Joe's attention has caught the barman's eye too.

Work starts on Actual Comic

Well, the thumbnails in any case.

I daresay I should probably have been further ahead in the comic making process before putting anything online. It would have looked far more professional, I’m sure. This is one way of keeping a record of my progress, though. There’s no need to go into the other good reasons for posting this as I go along, is there?

Auntie Connie

She’s not really Joe’s Auntie. But you probably know how it is. She’s Russ’s Auntie Connie and she lives next door to Joe and his gran. Joe has always called her Auntie Connie.

Far be it from me to say any different.

Robbie, Gort & Dark Maria

Have you ever listened to the themes to ‘Forbidden Planet’ and to ‘The Day the Earth Stood Still’ on the way to work on Friday and ended up, because you had work on Saturday, spending all day Sunday trying to work their lovely robots into some kind of a cartoon that you wished was in the New Yorker?

Me neither.

Mitch & Max

Coming up with new characters, mostly on the fly, is easily the best part of making comics. It’s like being hypnotised. I mean, look at Ally – the hand on the hip says confident, maybe with a dash of impatience, but the pointed-in toes say not. What’s going on there, then? See. Mesmerising!

Even though my comics making has been idling for a long while, I’m all revved up and planning a new trip – new characters, a new direction and a new approach – you’d swear I was twelve, not fifty-eight.

Exciting stuff. More soon.
